Service Tax VCES 2013 – Hotel Industry Training Session by CA Ritul Patwa

Posted By on November 22, 2013

A technical session was organised on 19.11.2013 in Jaipur on impact of Service Tax on hotel industry and the benefits of VCES, 2013 for the hotel industry. The event was organised by the Hotel Association of Jaipur. As a keynote speaker at the session CA Ritul Patwa discussed different categories of services within a hotel that are taxable under service tax including the reverse tax liability.

The technical session was jointly addressed with H’ble Asst Commissioner Sh. Rohan Choudhary, Designated Authority under VCES 2013 in Service Tax Commissionerate, Jaipur. Sh. Rohan Choudhary elaborated the procedural and documentation relaxation done by the department to make the process easy and friendly for the declarant.

Detail discussions were done on the impact of Service Tax on Hotel industry and after the technical session a detailed question-answer session was kept for resolving individual doubts.

There was an overwhelming response from the industry and it is expected that this has resulted in getting a lot of clarity on the subject for the hoteliers.

Service Tax Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme 2013 (VCES) is a boon for the industry since due to bonafide lack of information to the hoteliers, many areas covered under service tax have been overlooked and needs compliance from a retrospective date. With a blanket cover from interest and penalty on the ‘Tax Dues’ declared under VCES 2013 – This is a once in a life time opportunity for the hoteliers to ratify all past errors.
